TEHRAN (IQNA) – The head of the Islamic Culture and Relations Organization underlined the role that late Ayatollah Mohammad Ali Taskhiri played in promoting proximity among Islamic schools of thought.

Speaking to IQNA, Abuzar Ebrahimi Torkaman said Ayatollah Taskhiri had vast knowledge in different areas, including the Shia and Sunni Fiqh (jurisprudence).

He also had mastery of the Arabic language, Ebrahimi Torkaman said, noting that the senior cleric even had written Arabic poems.

These two attributes helped him a lot in promoting the discourse of Islamic proximity and defending the Ahl-ul-Bayt (AS), the ICRO chief said.

He underlined the need to continue the path of Ayatollah Taskhiri in enhancing Islamic unity and proximity, saying Muslims would not stand against enemies if there is discord and disunity.

“We (Muslims) should respect (each other’s beliefs) and focus on our commonalities,” he went on to say.

Ayatollah Taskhiri died of a heart attack in late August at the age of 76.
