TEHRAN (IQNA) – The Dar-ol-Quran Organization of Iran called for reconsidering the country’s ties with France given the European country’s Islamophobic and anti-Islam moves.

In a statement released on Tuesday, the organization condemned French President Emmanuel Macron’s recent statements against Islam and his support for offensive cartoons about Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).

It said such moves that are made in the name of freedom of speech only show the helplessness of those behind them.

The statement also called for Muslim unity under the banner of Islam and the Holy Quran in the face of such heinous acts.

Macron earlier this month pledged to fight “Islamist separatism”, which he said was threatening to take control in some Muslim communities around France.

He also described Islam as a religion “in crisis” worldwide and said the government would present a bill in December to strengthen a 1905 law that officially separated church and state in France.

His comments, in addition to his backing of satirical outlets publishing caricatures of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), have drawn widespread condemnation from Muslims across the world.
