Jafar Satvati, an official with the Ministry of Sports and Youths, said the competition has been organized virtually like last year due to the coronavirus pandemic.
He said top winners of the preliminary stage in provinces are competition in the national round.
Quran recitation, memorization of the Quran, Tafseer (interpretation), and Quranic concepts are among the categories of the competition, he noted.
The official added that the online Quranic contest will continue until February 3 with the closing ceremony in which winners are going to be awarded slated for February 8.
The COVID-19 outbreak has had a major impact on global sporting, cultural, religious and political events, with a host of events canceled, postponed or forced to be held online.
