Best Qari in 10 Recitation Styles to Be Selected in Egypt

TEHRAN (IQNA) – The Al-Azhar Grand Mosque in Egypt has organized a competition to select the best Qari for recording a recitation of the entire Quran in 10 different styles.

 

According to albawabhnews.com, Mohammad Al-Zuwaini, Al-Azhar’s deputy, said that the main objective of the competition is to identify top Quran reciters of the country and introduce the 10 styles of Quran recitation.

He added that the Qaris’ skills in Sowt, pronunciation of Quranic letters, Tajweed principles, and recitation of the Quran in 10 mutawatir (universally accepted) methods will be evaluated.

The applicants are required to be a resident of Egypt, master one of the 10 mutawatir styles, and name the style they recite and its narrator.

Different age groups can participate in the competition and each Qari should send three 5-minute video clips of their recitation.

The video clips will be evaluated and the selected Qaris will compete in the final stage.

The top Qari will first record one Juz’ (part) of the Quran and then participate in an educational course for the final recording of the entire Quran in the 10 styles.

Five recitation of each narration will be selected to be recorded and kept at the audio library of the mosque.

The competition started from March 1 and continues until March 31.
