TEHRAN (IQNA) – A senior Palestinian priest underlined that liberation of Al-Aqsa Mosque and the holy city of Jerusalem al-Quds needs practical unity between Palestinian Muslims and Christians.

Addressing a program held to mark the International Al-Aqsa Week, Father Manuel Musallam underlined that al-Quds belongs to Palestinians but the Zionists have occupied it.

Referring to different Zionist attacks on Al-Aqsa Mosque, he said they burned the mosque in 1996 and killed worshippers in 2000.

Now the Zionists are relentlessly excavating different parts of the mosque’s compound, the Christian cleric noted.

He said preventing worshippers from entering the mosque and banning Adhan (call to prayers) are other measures taken by the Zionist regime with the aim of taking control of the place of worship.

He called on all Palestinian Muslims and Christians to unite in countering the occupying regime and liberating al-Quds.

Musallam is a Palestinian Catholic priest. His pastoral work has taken him to Jordan, the West Bank, and to Gaza. He is a Palestinian activist, strongly opposed to Israel's occupation of the Palestinian territories, and the Judaization of Jerusalem al-Quds.
