TEHRAN (IQNA) – The closing ceremony of the 35th edition of Iran’s national Quran and Etrat festival for university students and academics was postponed.

The ceremony had been slated for Sunday, April 11, at the Iran University of Medical Sciences here in the capital but was put off due to the grave situation of the coronavirus infections.

An official with the Quran and Etrat Center of the Health Ministry said the closing function will hopefully be held in the middle or end of the holy month of Ramadan (will begin on April 13 or 14) if the COVID-19 situation improves.

Iran broke its single-day record for new coronavirus cases on Tuesday by recording 17,400 infections, with the British variant of the virus accounting for most of the new cases.

The fresh wave of the disease pushed the national tally to 1.963 million infections and 63,500 deaths, spokeswoman of the Health Ministry, Sima Sadat Lari, said.
