This is according to Seyed Mehdi Sharafi, head of the Quranic Affairs Office of the province’s Awqaf and Charity Affairs Department, who said more than 1,000 individuals have signed up for the Quranic event in the province.
He said there has been a 100-percent increase in the number of registrations for the 44rd edition of the competition.
Sharafi added that registration will continue until June 3 and the number is expected to rise further.
He noted that the highest number of registration in Tehran is in the category of Tafseer (Quran interpretation).
Registration began all over the country two weeks ago.
The first stage of the nationwide contest is scheduled to begin on June 23.
Winners of the first round will make it to the provincial stage and top participants will be selected for the national stage.
Last year, 16,000 individuals signed up for participation in the competition’s 43rd edition.
The Islamic Republic of Iran’s national Quran competition is annually held by the Awqaf and Charity Affairs Organization with the participation of top Quran activists from across the country.
It is aimed at discovering Quranic talents and promoting Quranic activities in the society.
The categories of the contest include memorization, recitation and interpretation of the Holy Quran.
