Ibraheem al-Faham, an official with the center’s branch in Sinai, said the winners were awarded cash prizes, Egypt Today reported.
A total of 28 students were announced and awarded as winners, the official said.
The competition, named after imam of Al-Azhar Sheikh Ahmad Muhammad Al-Tayyeb, is annually organized by the center for students of its colleges and affiliated institutes.
The cash prizes awarded to the winners amounted to a total of 23 million Egyptian pounds.
Egypt is a country in North Africa with a population of around 96 million.
Muslims account for around 90 percent of the country’s total population.
Quranic activities are very common in the Muslim-majority Arab country and many of the Muslim world’s top Qaris in the past and present have been Egyptian.
