Senior Islamologist Maitham al-Janabi Dies in Russia

TEHRAN (IQNA) – Maitham al-Janabi, an Iraqi-born Islamologist and Islamic philosophy scholar died on Sunday.

 

According to RT Arabic, al-Janabi died of COVID-19.

Born in 1955 in Najaf, Iraq, he spent many years of his life in Russia.

Al-Janabi got his PhD from Moscow State University’s Faculty of Philosophy in 1985.

He headed the Arabic Studies Center of the Russian State University for the Humanities. He was also the editor-in-chief of Rimal magazine whose content features relations between Russia and the Arab world as well as Arab literature, history, arts, philosophy and politics.

He wrote more than 1,500 works, including papers, articles and books in different languages like Arabic, Russian and English.

Most of his works are about philosophy, Islam in Russia, politics, and history and civilization in Mesopotamia.
