Oldest Quran Exegesis at Alexandria Library

TEHRAN (IQNA) – The oldest remaining exegesis of the Quran is kept at Alexandria Manuscripts Museum in Egypt.

The Arabic manuscript is part of a Tafseer (Quran interpretation) written by Abu Ishaq bin Ibraheem known as al-Busti.

The copy, which is currently being repaired in a laboratory, dated back to the year 368 Hijri (978 CE).

The writer mentions a verse or part of it and then brings Hadiths (narrations) that help interpret the verse.

The manuscript is an important document that shows the evolution of Arabic script.

There are many handwritten old documents in the Manuscripts Museum of Alexandria, some of them dating back to 1,000 years ago.
