TEHRAN (IQNA) – Those with hearing and speech impairment in Pulikkal, in the Indian state of Kerala, can now read the Holy Quran.

The Pulikkal Ability Foundation for Disabled has developed the facility to 'recite' the Quran using sign language.

The Foundation gives training to learn the Quran through Arabic symbols. This experiment is first of its kind in the state. It is believed that the devotees who recite the Quran will get salvation. So, the institution developed this facility to help hearing and speech impaired people to recite the Holy Book.

Currently, eight people from Kozhikode, Kannur, Malappuram and Palakkad districts are learning Arabic sign language to recite Quran at the institute.

Different symbols corresponding to the Arabic letters have been developed for this language.

The training starts from 10 am to 4 pm. PT Abdul Vahid Vazhakkad and Hussain Kallanthode teach the sign language. The students will be provided with food and accommodation throughout the training period. The first phase of training lasts for three weeks.
