TEHRAN (IQNA) – The second Shia mosque in the Zambian capital of Lusaka was inaugurated in October.

Shia Mosque in Zambia

With an area of 7,000 square meters, the mosque has been built with the support of Zambian benefactors.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by Seyyed Morteza Morteza, a Lebanese international preacher who has been active in the African country for years.

Grand Mufti of Zambia Assadollah Mawali and Seyyed Mohsen Mousavizadeh, representative of the Islamic Culture and Relations Organizations in Zambia, were among other guests who addressed the ceremony.

The mosque aims to become an Islamic center comprising a mosque, Hussainiya, house of science, and educational classes.

A land-locked country in the south of the African continent, Zambia has a population of nearly 18 million. Muslims constitute less than one percent of the population as Christianity is the official religion of the state.
