Egypt to Hold Quran Contest for Qaris, Al-Azhar Faculty Members

TEHRAN (IQNA) – Egypt’s Awqaf Ministry plans to organize a Quran competition for qaris and faculty members of Al-Azhar Islamic University.

The panel of judges will score the participants on their Sawt (melodious voice) and Lahn (rhythm) in recitation of the Quran, Youm7.com website reported.

It will be held both orally and in writing, the ministry said.

Those willing to take part in the competition can register by December 8.  

Winners will be awarded in a ceremony slated for the Nights of Qadr during the holy month of Ramadan.

They will receive cash prizes ranging from 3,000 to 50,000 Egyptian pounds.

The top contenders will also be sent to different cities in Egypt to recite the Quran in Ramadan.
