Great Mosque of Paris Bestows Quran to Algerian President

TEHRAN (IQNA) – The rector of the Great Mosque of Paris presented a copy of the French translation of the Quran to Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune.

 

Chems Eddine Hafiz, rector of the mosque, met and held talks with the Algerian official on Thursday in Algiers.

The meeting was staged upon the request of Hafiz, the office of the president said in a statement, EnnaharOnline reported.

Pointing to the historic spiritual status of the Great Mosque of Paris, Tebboune called on the mosque official to pursue moderation and fight extremism.

The meeting was also attended by Algerian Presidency Chief of Staff Abdelaziz Khellaf and Religious Affairs Minister Youcef Belmehdi.

For his part, Chems Eddine Hafiz said the mosque will continue the moderation approach.

He also presented a new translation of the Quran, supervised by the mosque, to the Algerian president.

The appointment of the Dean of the Paris Mosque can be vetoed by Algeria.
