TEHRAN (IQNA) – Special programs have been scheduled for Laylat al-Raghaib, also known as Night of Wishes, in Iraq’s Karbala.

Accordingly, a ceremony will be held in the holy city on the first Thursday night of the lunar month of Rajab which falls on February 3 this month.

The ceremony will broadcast live from Iranian national TV from 11:00 PM, Iran’s local time.

Hojat-ol-Islam Hossein Ansarian is slated to give a sermon in the event while eulogies will also be performed by Saeed Haddadian, Seyyed Majid Banifatemeh, and Nariman Panahi among others.

Muslims traditionally recite a special set of prayers and read from the Holy Quran on this night.

It is believed that every wish, request and hope will be fulfilled if asked for on Laylat al-Raghaib.

Raghaib comes from the root "regabe" in Arabic, which means to desire, seek or tend toward.

It is said that Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) used to fast on the first Thursday of Rajab and recite twelve rak'ats of prayers in six sets of 2 rak'ats between Maghrib prayer and Isha prayer.
