TEHRAN (IQNA) – A Syrian artist has embroidered the verses of the Holy Quran on fabric.

Claimed to be the first all-fabric Quran mushaf of its kind, the work is on display at the 53rd International Cairo Book Fair in the Egyptian capital, according to Cairo24.

Mohamed Maher Hazeri is a Syrian calligrapher and artist who worked on the Quran. He started the work in 2000 and took him 12 years to complete it.

The copy has used Uthman Taha calligraphy and has 12 volumes, he said, adding that the dimensions of the book are 80 cm in 60 cm with a total weight of 200 kilograms.

Every volume contains 2.5 Juzes (parts) of the Quran, he said.

He has already put on display his works in exhibitions in Iran, Syria, Lebanon, Kuwait, the UAE, and Qatar in the past few years.

The 53rd edition of the Cairo International Book Fair was inaugurated on Jan. 27. The exhibition started receiving the public daily a day later and continues until February 7.

The Book Fair is held under the theme “Egypt’s identity, culture and the question of future.”

Greece is the guest of honor, and the writer Yahya Haqqi is a feature of the fair, and the writer Abdel-Tawab Youssef is the character of the children’s book fair.

The 53rd session returns with Cairo International Book Fair to its original date at the end of January of each year, after the last edition of the fair was held exceptionally during the month of June 2021 due to the global pandemic.
