TEHRAN (IQNA) – The holy shrine of Imam Hussein (AS) in Karbala has been covered with 100 new carpets on the eve of Imam Ali's (AS) birth anniversary.

A day before the start of celebrations for the birthday of the first Shia Imam, Imam Ali (AS), old carpets of the courtyards of Imam Hussein (AS) shrine were replaced with 100 new ones.

The shrine is preparing to host ceremonies on the 13th day of the lunar month of Rajab.

The following photos show the process of replacing the carpets.

Imam Ali (AS) was Prophet Muhammad (PBUH)’s highly revered son-in-law and cousin as well as the first Imam in Shia Islam.

The Imam is respected for his courage, knowledge, belief, honesty, unbending devotion to Islam, deep loyalty to Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), equal treatment of all Muslims, and generosity in forgiving his defeated enemies.

Shia Muslims and others celebrate the auspicious occasion all over the world.
