Leader Condoles Demise of Ayatollah Gorgani

TEHRAN (IQNA) – Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei condoled the demise of Ayatollah Seyed Mohammad Ali Alavi Gorgani.

 

In a message on Tuesday, Ayatollah Khamenei extended his condolences on the demise of the “pious scholar” to the seminary in Qom, Ayatollah Gorgani’s students, admirers, and followers especially to the “the virtuous people of Golestan Province who had a deep respect for him and his late honorable father, Ayatollah Sayyid Sajjad Alawi Gorgani” and also to the scholar’s family and honorable children.

“This great marj’a always remained faithful to the people and the Islamic Republic on various issues related to the Revolution and the country. He performed valuable services, which will be a source of divine grace and mercy, God willing,” noted the Leader, adding, “I ask God, the Exalted, to elevate his status and to raise him with his pure ancestors [in the Hereafter].”

Iranian Marja (source of emulation) Ayatollah Seyed Mohammad Ali Alavi Gorgani passed away on Tuesday.

The senior cleric, who had been hospitalized in Qom, died today at the age of 82.

Messages of condolence have poured in after the demise of the senior cleric.

In a message, Iranian President Ebrahim Raeisi condoled the demise, saying, “This pious jurist, along with guiding the people and educating students of religious sciences, as well as doing good and charitable deeds, made a diligent effort in the field of defending the ideals of the Islamic Revolution, which will undoubtedly be a worthy baggage for him in the Hereafter."

A funeral ceremony is set to be held in Gorgan, in Golestan province, on Wednesday before the burial is made in Qom on Thursday.

He studied Islamic sciences in the holy city of Qom with scholars like Ayatollah Mostafa Etemadi, Ayatollah Mohammad Mojahed Tabrizi and Ayatollah Seyed Mohammad Baqer Soltani Tabatabaei and then prominent Faqihs like Grand Ayatollah Boroujerdi, Imam Khomeini, Ayatollah Seyed Mohammad Mohaqeq Damad and Ayatollah Morteza Haeri Yazdi.

Ayatollah Alavi Gorgani soon became a scholar himself, teaching Islamic sciences at the Qom Seminary.

He also wrote many books in Fiqh and other Islamic fields.

Ayatollah Alavi Gorgani supported the Islamic Revolution, taking part in rallies against the Pahlavi regime.

He also supported the Islamic Republic that was established after the victory of the revolution.
