TEHRAN (IQNA) – The Israeli regime on Monday closed the Ibrahimi Mosque in the West Bank for Zionist settlers to enter the site.

Ibrahimi Mosque

The mosque will be closed to Muslim worshippers for two days for Jewish holidays, RT Arabic reported.

The mosque’s Director, Ghassan Al-Rajabi, condemned the move as continuation of the Zionist authorities’ attempts to dominate and occupy the mosque and give it to Zionist settlers.

The Ibrahimi Mosque is located in the city of Al-Khalil (Hebron) in the West Bank.

According to some Hadiths (narrations) the tombs of Prophets Ibrahim (Abraham), Is’haq (Isaac), and Yaqub (Jacob) and their wives are in this mosque.

Israel divided the Ibrahimi Mosque in 1994 between Muslims and Jews following the infamous massacre committed by a Jewish settler which left over 50 people dead. Prior to that time, it was an exclusive Muslim worship area.

Israel does not allow Muslims to enter the mosque and say prayers there on Jewish holidays.
