Egypt to Hold Int’l Quran Competition in February
Slated to start on February 17, the international Quranic event has been named after late Sheikh Nasreddin Tubar, one of the country’s renowned qaris and Ibtihal reciters who died in 1986.
A preliminary contest is also planned to be held next month to select Egypt’s representatives in the international competition, Al-Mal website reported.
This was announced by Adel al-Muslehi, an official with the organizing committee.
Memorization of the entire Quran and recitation of Quran for men, memorization of the entire Quran for women and prayer and Tawasheeh recitation are the categories of the competition, he said.
Muslehi added that the participants should not be under 16 or above 30 years of age.
Every contender can take part in one category only, he stated, noting that those who have won a rank in previous editions cannot attend the contest any more.
Egypt is a country in North Africa with a population of around 100 million.
Muslims account for around 90 percent of the country’s total population.
Quranic activities are very common in the Arab country and many of the Muslim world’s top qaris in the past and present have been Egyptian.
