The day, which fell on Sunday, marked the demise anniversary of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and martyrdom anniversary of Imam Hassan Mujtaba (AS), the second Shia Imam.
The Astan (custodianship) of Imam Ali (AS) holy shrine, said in a statement that the mausoleum hosted more than 6 million pilgrims on the occasion.
It said all the capacities of the Astan’s different sections were mobilized to implement the plan.
Some 2,000 volunteers from different government bodies and other institutions in the city also contributed to implementing it, the statement added.
In order to better serve the pilgrims, some 21,000 square meters of the areas around the mausoleum were carpeted, the Astan said.
It noted that there were 14 special stations set up to answer the pilgrims’ religious questions.
Also, nearly 600 medics from Iraq and a number of other countries provided the pilgrims with medical services.
