TEHRAN (IQNA) – There is a delicate balance in nature in various areas, for example between the amount of oxygen humans receive and the amount released by plants and also between the carbon dioxide released by humans and that consumed by plants.

Quran's scientific miracles

The Holy Quran refers to this delicate balance in nature and portrays an example of the wonders of the world of creation.

God says in verse 19 of Surah Al-Hijr: “And the earth We have spread out (like a carpet); set thereon mountains firm and immovable; and produced therein all kinds of things in due balance.”

The words and terms used in this verse shows that there is a balance between the plants on earth, the oxygen they produce and the carbon dioxide they consume.

This has been proved by scientists in recent decades. For example, they now know that oxygen makes up some 21 percent of gases in the atmosphere. If this amount were to increase a little, the earth would be burned by the slightest spark and if it were to decrease a little, living things would perish.

That is also the case with carbon dioxide, which constitutes less than 1 percent of the atmosphere. With an increase in this amount, people would suffocate and its decline would lead to the deaths of plants, which would mean an end to life.

Another subject the Quran refers to is the photosynthesis in plants, a process in which chlorophyll (a green pigment found in plants) converts light energy into chemical energy that produces fruits and grains.

The Holy Quran says: “And He it is Who sends down water from the cloud, then We bring forth with it buds of all (plants), then We bring forth from it green (foliage) from which We produce grain piled up (in the ear); and of the palm-tree, of the sheaths of it, come forth clusters (of dates) within reach, and gardens of grapes and olives and pomegranates, alike and unlike; behold the fruit of it when it yields the fruit and the ripening of it; most surely there are signs in this for a people who believe.” (Surah Al-An’am, Verse 99)

The Quran says that first the green substance is formed, then fruits and grains are created. This is what science also says.

Here we should ask ourselves this question: Had Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) studied the small components of plants under electronic microscope? Of course not. The source he received this knowledge from is God, the Almighty, who has assured all humans that He has given him the knowledge.

The Quran is also the first book that has proved the creation of plants in pairs, which is what the modern science has only recently realized. The Holy Book says in verse 36 of Surah Yasin: “All glory belongs to the One Who has created pairs out of what grow from the earth, out of their soul and out of that which they do not know.”
