Minister of Religious Affairs and Endowments Youcef Belmehdi, Minister of National Education Abdelhakim Belabed, and Minister of Vocational Education and Training Professionals Yacine Merabi took part in the meeting.

They talked about the progress in implementation of the plan, which was ordered in April 2022 by the country’s President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, al-Shorouq website reported.

Tebboune ordered the cabinet at the time to draw up a plan for publishing Quran copies as well as books of Hadiths in braille to help the visually-impaired in Algeria, the Arab world, Africa and elsewhere in the world.

The three cabinet ministers called on the technical committee set up to implement the plan to set a deadline and determine the capacities of the national publishing houses for printing the copies.

Also, the education ministry’s inspector general was tasked with monitoring the process of implementation of the plan.

Braille is a writing system which enables the blind and partially-sighted people to read and write through touch.

It was invented by Louis Braille (1809-1852), who was blind and became a teacher of the blind.

In recent years, the Holy Quran and religious books have been printed in Braille to help visually-impaired Muslims read the texts with ease.
