TEHRAN (IQNA) – Ismail bin Al-Amin is known as one of the biggest Quran memorization schools in Libya that is still using traditional methods.

Children sit in rows with copies of the Holy Quran in front of them, loudly reading the verses, according to a report by Al Jazeera.

Opened in 1967, the school teaches the Holy Quran to children of different ages.

Students usually start their memorization journey at the school at the age of five or six as they gradually learn articulation of letters, writing, and tajweed rules before entering the memorization phase.

Sheikh al-Zaitouni, head of the school, says the center uses traditional methods for Quran memorization except that students write down the verses on paper instead of tablets.

Students of this center have won various awards at national and international competitions, he said, adding that internal contests are also held regularly to raise students' motivation.

Special Quranic programs are also held during the holy month of Ramadan for reciting the verses, he added.

According to al-Zaitouni, some 320 students are currently learning the Quran in the school. He noted that more teachers are needed amid the growing number of students.

Memorizing the Holy Quran is considered a great honor for Libyans, he said, calling on policymakers to increase their support for the Quran memorizers and memorization.
