TEHRAN (IQNA) – The director general of the Iranian Education Ministry’s Quran, Etrat and Prayer Department said the department has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Bait-ul-Ahzan Institute on training Quran memorizers.

Mikaeil Baqeri told IQNA that based on the MoU and in the first phase, the institute will train 5,000 memorizers of different parts of the Quran in schools during the current school year, which ends in June.

He said similar initiatives are going to be implemented in the next school year, adding that the number of schools across the country that will take part in the plan will be determined soon.

Baqeri noted that boarding schools, the Farhangian University and the Dar-ol-Quran centers of the Education Ministry will have priority in hosting the memorization courses.

He further referred to Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei’s demand on training 10 million Quran memorizers and said more efforts should be made to reach the target.

Ayatollah Khamenei said in a speech in 2011 that the society should take a direction so that at least 10 million people in the country learn the Holy Quran by heart.

After that speech, related Quranic bodies in the country devised a plan, called National Quran Memorization Plan, aimed at promoting memorization of the Holy Book and training 10 million memorizers in a few years.
