Several Muslim scholars from across the world pointed to the importance of building up unity among Muslim nations.

They made the remarks while addressing the second “International Conference on Peaceful Coexistence” which was held in Tehran on June 10 with a focus on “the convergence of the Islamic world and the horizon of the future civilization centered on the purposes of Sharia.”

“We should not allow division among Muslims as the holy Quran stressed,” Maulana Salman Husaini Nadwi, head of India's Lucknow University, told the conference which was attended by 50 scholars from 15 countries as well as 150 top Sunni figures from Iran.

He expressed satisfaction with reconciliation between Iran and Saudi Arabia hoping that this would make the Islamic world more united. He also hoped for increased cooperation between the two states to liberate al-Aqsa Mosque.

Bilal Saeed Shaaban, Secretary General of Lebanon’s Islamic Tawhid Movement, was another speaker at the event who stressed that unity was an “essential” issue that is needed in “all social and economic areas.”

He said that the economic unity of the Muslim countries would help them resist the global powers. “We must teach our children about economic unity because it leads to developing countries,” he added.

Muslims have a “unique geographical location with the Persian Gulf and the Suez Canal,” he said, urging for using them “unitedly.”

He said that the US and the West were scared of the closer ties between Iran and Saudi Arabia.

Salah Abulhaj, a senior Hanafi scholar, also underscored unity as the factor that can lead to the victory of Muslims. “Islamic unity is the path of salvation for the Muslim Ummah,” he said.

He also called on some Muslim countries to set aside their efforts to impose political and military dominance on others.

Elsewhere, the scholar urged for a “practical” measure for the liberation of Quds, noting that this can be achieved through Muslim unity.
