A Ceasefire Aimed at Safeguarding Values
There have been unfair analyses made in history about this complex event.
For various reasons, Imam Hassan (AS) has been wronged in the history of Islam. Some of the reasons are as follows:
1- His martyrdom day coincides with the demise anniversary of the Holy Prophet (PBUH) and that is why preachers and lecturers fail to talk enough about Imam Hassan’s (AS) life, character and virtues.
2- Narrations say that the body of Imam Hassan (AS) was struck by over 70 arrows. When his body was taken to the holy shrine of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) to be buried there and as preparations were under way, a woman riding a mule approached, claiming that it was her house and no one would be allowed to bury the body of Imam Hassan (AS) there.
3- Imam Hassan (AS) was even wronged in his own home as his wife killed him at the order of Mu’awiya.
4- The main issue about which Imam Hassan (AS) has been wronged is the peace deal with Mu’awiya. If it were not for that peace deal, Islam would have been destroyed right then and nothing would remain of it in history.
5- Some commanders of Imam Hassan’s (AS) army sent written messages to Mu’awiya, urging him to launch an attack and pledging that they would surrender Imam Hassan (AS) to Mu’awiya or kill him.
6- His followers who were mostly the people of Kufa rebelled against him and said they wanted to live and did not want to fight, pressuring Imam Hassan (AS) to sign the peace deal with Mu’awiya.
7- Shia Muslims know more or less about Imam Ali’s generosity and how helped and supported orphans and the needy, but they know little about Imam Hassan’s (AS) efforts to help the poor and support orphans as well as his strives for defending Shia Islam and protecting Shias.
