IQNA – An initiative launched in Egypt’s mosques for correcting errors made by people when reciting the Quran has been received well, officials say.

Dubbed “Correct Your Recitation”, it is held in a number of major mosques in different cities.

Ten mosques host the implementation of the program.

The first one was Sayyidah Zaynab Mosque in Cairo last Thursday.

On Monday evening, the Al-Nasr Mosque in Arish, Northern Sinai Governorate, hosted the event. It was attended by a large number of people.

Sheikh Mahmoud Marzouq, director of the governorate’s Awqaf department, hailed the warm reception of the program, in which, he said, people read one-fourth of a Hizb of the Quran every day.

Every day after Maghrib and Isha prayers, the prayer leader of the mosque or a Quran recitation expert reads the verses of the Quran, beginning with Surah Al-Fatiha, the first Surah of the Holy Book, and people repeat the verses one by one after him, Marzouq noted.

The initiative is aimed at serving the Holy Quran, encouraging people to rectify their Quran reading, and encouraging more people to go to mosques, the Awqaf ministry says.
