Speaking at a TV program, Sheikh Muhajiri Zayyan said all people face various challenges in their life, some of which are common among all human societies.
For Muslims in Europe, though, the biggest challenge is how to maintain their Islamic identity, he stated.
The cleric added that this issue has become a major concern for followers of Islam in Europe.
“We, as Islamic institutions, by teaching the Arabic language and memorization and recitation of the Quran, are trying to help Muslims protect their Islamic identity,” he stated.
“We use all our power to safeguard this identity in Western countries,” Zayyan added.

He noted that European societies have their own identities and there are many organizations and educational institutions that support and protect those identities.
In recent years, Muslims in Europe have been facing many problems in maintaining their religious identity. They include the rise to power of far-right parties, new laws banning Islamic issues like Hijab and religious education, and spread of anti-Islam sentiments by racist groups.
