Dubbed Hudan Lil Muttaqeen (a guide for the pious), the contest will be attended by 80 Quran reciters from Iraq and other countries, according to the website of the Astan.
Jafar al-Mousawi, director of the Quran TV affiliated to the Karbala Satellite TV Networks, said the competition will be held annually at the order of Sheikh Abdul Mahdi al-Karbalayi, the representative of the Marja’iya (source of emulation) and the custodian of Imam Hussein (AS) holy shrine.
He said the organizers, members of panel of judges, and supervisors of the competition will be Iraqis.
The Astan has earmarked awards and cash prizes for winners of the competition, he noted.
Al-Mousawi added that there will be a special prize for the top winner, that is, he would be allowed to climb the Ma’zaneh of the holy shrine of Imam Hussein (AS).
Ma’zaneh is highest point of a minaret where a muezzin recites Adhan (call to prayers).
There are no words yet about when the first edition of the Quranic event is going to be held.
