The suspect, identified as Muhammad Ibrahim, reportedly obtained the Quran from a nearby mosque before defiling its pages and setting them on fire atop bricks outside his residence, Pakistan’s The News International reported on Saturday.
According to the complainant, Kashif Raza, a resident of Jhalo Wali, several witnesses observed the incident. As word spread, local residents raised alarm, prompting the suspect to flee the scene.
Authorities swiftly registered a case and took the suspect into custody. The investigation remains ongoing.
The suspect's motives and the circumstances surrounding the desecration are yet to be fully disclosed.
