Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia' Al Sudani inaugurated the museum, Al-Maali News reported.

He toured different parts of the building and talked with the family of Sheikh al-Waeli.

He also ordered efforts to launch more museums featuring national and cultural symbols of Iraq.

The al-Waeli Museum was launched after the Municipality of Baghdad purchased and restored the house of the late scholar.

Ahmed Al-Waeli Al-Laithi Al-Kinani (1928–2003) was a Shia cleric, scholar, preacher, and poets who introduced a new style of Khataba (delivering sermons).

In addition to his religious studies in Najaf, he obtained a master’s degree from the University of Baghdad and a PhD from Cairo University.

He was among the leaders of the movement against the Ba’thist regime of Iraq.
