IQNA – The spokesman for Iran’s Foreign Ministry said no one should have any doubt about the Islamic Republic’s resolve to punish the perpetrator the terrorist attack that killed Ismail Haniyeh, the head of Hamas’ political bureau.

Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Nasser Kan’ani

Speaking at a press conference in Tehran on Monday, Nasser Kan’ani said the Israeli regime’s assassination of Haniyeh, who was Iran’s formal guest, was a clear violation of international law.

The Islamic Republic will certainly punish the aggressor and no one should prevent this deterrent measure or have any doubt about it, he stated.

He noted, though, that Iran has never been after escalation of tension in the region and won’t seek it in the future, either.

The spokesman said terrorism is inherent in the Zionist regime’s nature and its existence relies on continuation of organized and state terrorism.

He said the world must unequivocally condemn this unprecedented crime and support the punishment of the aggressor.

Kan’ani also referred to Iran’s diplomatic activities regarding the case and said a meeting of the foreign ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) is scheduled to be held in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia on the issue this Wednesday.

He said there have also been talks held with the UN secretary general, the president of the UN Security Council, and senior officials of different countries in which the stances of the Islamic Republic on this issue have been clarified.

He deplored the inability of the UN Security Council to fulfil its inherent responsibilities due to the US’ support for the Zionist regime.

The Zionist regime does not act without permission and support from the United States, the Iranian diplomat said, adding that Washington must fulfil its international responsibilities and prevent the spread of war in the region.
