IQNA – Language barriers limit the understanding of the Quran for the majority of people, says a translator, urging for easy-to-understand translations.

Language Gap Limits Global Understanding of Quran, Translator Notes

“Unfortunately, very few people around the world can connect with the Holy Quran due to their language being distant from the Arabic of the Quran. As a result, in such countries, only translations of the Quranic verses are published,” Hotaj-ol-Islam Ali Maleki said while addressing a forum in Mashhad on Tuesday.

The cleric has already published a Persian rendering of the Holy Quran, which experts say is different compared to other translations given the easy-to-comprehend language use.

“By reading this translation, the reader can easily connect with the Holy Quran, as no ambiguous or difficult language has been used. The focus has been entirely on making the translation easy to understand,” Maleki said while explaining his work.

The sentence structures in this translation are sound and have been edited for proper Persian language style, he said. “While it is written with young people and teenagers in mind, adults have also embraced it.”

“Fortunately, this translation is now being translated into more than 20 languages, including English, French, Spanish, and others, some of which have already been completed,” he added.

A description published on a website dedicated to the translation reads that “This work falls under the category of "message-based" (thematic and intent-focused) translations, with every passage grounded in esteemed interpretations of the Holy Quran.”

“Another notable feature is that it ‘doesn't feel like a translation!’ The translator's and editor's core concern has been to convey the meaning of the Quranic verses in proper and coherent Persian structures. They aimed to produce a translation that is entirely Persian so that any reader who picks it up can read smoothly, quickly grasp the sentence structure, and see the verses of each surah as interconnected. Ultimately, this allows the reader to enjoy the rich knowledge and wisdom of the Quran.”
