IQNA – The UN Secretary General’s Special Representative for Iraq has traveled to the holy city of Najaf to meet with the Arab country’s top Shia cleric Grand Ayatollah Ali al-Sistani.

Mohamed al-Hassan has arrived in Najaf at the head of a delegation, a source said, according to Al-Alam news network.
The source said al-Hassan is going to talk about important issues at the meeting and learn about the senior cleric’s stances.
The UN chief’s envoy will also present a report on the major issues in Iraq that the United Nations has focused on, the source added.

Al-Hassan, who is from Oman, was appointed by United Nations Secretary General António Guterres as his Special Representative for Iraq and Head of the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI) in July.
He succeeded Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert of the Netherlands.
