The association named the five qaris as Ahmed Naji Shahin, Madhat Marei, Ahmed al-Suaidi, Ismail al-Tabbakh and Farid Asil.

It said the five have refused to show up at the association, Al-Qahira website reported.

It added that legal measures have been initiated against the five qaris.

The association said they have recited the Quran in disrespectful and wrong styles, which is illegal.

Meanwhile, Grand Mufti of Egypt Nazir Mohamed Ayyad slammed performing or listening to the recitation of the Quran in conjunction with the playing of musical instruments.

He said it is a grave sin as Muslim Faqihs (jurists) consider it to be a degradation of the status of the Quran.

Meanwhile, a number of Egyptian Quran reciters have recently been suspended or banned for making mistakes while reciting the Holy Book.
