Iran Ready to Cooperate in Restoration of Yerevan’s Blue Mosque

IQNA – Iran’s minister of Cultural Heritage, Tourism and Handicrafts expressed the country’s readiness to help in the restoration of the Blue Mosque in Yerevan, Armenia’s capital.

“We are prepared to take serious and practical steps in the restoration of this valuable building,” Reza Salehi Amiri said during a visit to the mosque. 

He added that while it has a solid structure and remarkable architecture, the mosque requires proper restoration and maintenance.

Salehi Amiri also appreciated the efforts made to preserve and promote the mosque.

Iranian Ambassador to Armenia Mehdi Sobhani and Cultural Attaché Mohammad Asadi Movahed accompanied him in the visit.

He said the Blue Mosque is considered one of the prominent works from the Qajar era and holds special significance as one of the outstanding cultural and artistic symbols shared between Iran and Armenia.

Meanwhile, Asadi Movahed said the Blue Mosque symbolizes the cultural and artistic collaboration between Iran and Armenia, and proposed registration of this historical site as a joint heritage on UNESCO's World Heritage list.

He highlighted the cultural and artistic programs held at the Blue Mosque, stating that in addition to hosting religious ceremonies, the mosque also serves as a cultural and artistic center.

This mosque hosts scientific meetings, cultural conferences, and various art exhibitions, and its library is a resource for researchers and enthusiasts of Iranian studies, he stated.

Salehi Amiri has traveled to Armenia to attend the 8th Ministerial Meeting of the Ancient Civilizations Forum.
