The UM has immediately closed down the two 24-hour convenience outlets on its campus after they were suspected of selling non-halal sandwich packs.

UM in a statement said the move was made following concerns over the product’s halal labelling and to ensure investigations could proceed without interference.

"It was found that the sandwich product packs labelled 'ham and cheese sandwich' and the usage of halal logo on the product in the stores were doubtful.

"As such the premises will be closed until further notice," Sinar Harian quoted UM as saying in a statement on Saturday (Jan 11).
