In a recent conference in Bangkok, Thailand, Mahdi Zare, Iran’s cultural attaché, hailed Tasnim Exegesis, a comprehensive Quran interpretation authored by Grand Ayatollah Abdollah Javadi Amoli.
Speaking to an audience that included scholars and enthusiasts of Islamic studies, Zare described the exegesis as “a monumental scholarly achievement that deepens our understanding of the Quran’s divine wisdom.”
The Tasnim Exegesis, which spans 80 volumes, was completed over a 40-year period from 1980 to 2020. It is recognized as the most detailed Quranic interpretation in Islamic history.
The work employs a multi-dimensional approach, combining three methodologies: interpreting the Quran through the Quran itself, by reference to Hadith, and through intellectual reasoning.

Zare highlighted the unique depth of the exegesis, noting that it not only explains the Quran's linguistic and literary aspects but also explores its philosophical, ethical, social, mystical, and even scientific dimensions. “This comprehensive approach addresses the spiritual and intellectual needs of contemporary humanity,” Zare said.
Zare noted that the Quran is a universal source of guidance, containing profound layers of divine knowledge. “For centuries, Islamic scholars have endeavored to interpret the Quran’s teachings in ways that resonate with people across different times and cultures. The Tasnim Exegesis stands out as a guiding light for those seeking spiritual and intellectual clarity in today’s complex world.”
One of the distinguishing features of the exegesis, noted the envoy, is its Quran-by-Quran method, where meanings of verses are illuminated through other parts of the scripture. This approach, Zare explained, reveals the Quran’s internal harmony and coherence. “It showcases the interconnectedness of divine revelations, allowing readers to grasp the Quran’s profound wisdom.”

Ayatollah Javadi Amoli, the author of the exegesis, sought to make Quranic teachings accessible and relevant to the challenges of modern society, said the envoy, adding that the scholar’s insights offer practical solutions for contemporary issues, providing a moral and spiritual framework that addresses human needs.
Zare also pointed to the importance of translating the exegesis into various languages to make it widely accessible.
“The Tasnim Exegesis is not just a theological work; it is a treasure trove of Islamic knowledge that can serve as a foundation for fostering Islamic identity and moral development in the global community.”
In 2006, the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO) recognized the Tasnim Exegesis as a landmark work in Quranic and Islamic studies. Scholars have praised its meticulous scholarship and its capacity to inspire ethical reflection and spiritual growth.
