IQNA – Tasnim Exegesis of the Quran is a “living” interpretation that answers the contemporary needs of humanity, a scholar says.

Speaking to IQNA, Iranian cleric Hojat-ol-Islam Davood Komeijani offered an overview of the Tasnim Exegesis of the Quran, a comprehensive interpretation authored by Ayatollah Abdollah Javadi Amoli.

Komeijani emphasized the distinctive methodology employed in the exegesis, noting that Ayatollah Javadi Amoli presents interpretations through four perspectives.

The scholar first considers a selection of existing interpretations before the exegesis delves into the direct interpretation of the verse, providing clarity on its immediate meaning, said Komeijani, who has for several years attended the lessons of Ayatollah Javadi Amoli.

The exegesis then explores "the subtleties and indications of the verse from a higher perspective," he said, adding that finally, the exegesis incorporates discussions based on narrations, enriching the interpretation with contextual and traditional understandings.

This structured approach, according to Komeijani, ensures that "concepts settle in the reader's mind effortlessly, akin to the experience of a musical composition."

“Tasnim is recognized for its comprehensive examination of the Quran from multiple angles by a distinguished religious scholar and jurist,” Komeijani said.

Ayatollah Javadi Amoli strives to substantiate his elucidations by referencing other Quranic verses, elucidating phrases with corresponding expressions elsewhere in the Quran to derive reasoned conclusions and achieve clarity, he added.

Reflecting on the dynamic nature of Quranic interpretation, Komeijani cited Allameh Tabatabaei, who stated that the Quran possesses the capacity to inspire new interpretations every two to three years, adapting to contemporary developments.

Komeijani further described the 'Tasnim Exegesis' as a "living interpretation" that remains pertinent to current times, addressing many of humanity's contemporary needs.

“The Quran is the best and most beautiful message in the world,” Komeijani said.

The Quran serves as a comprehensive guide for humanity, offering teachings on the nature of the world and directives on actions to undertake or avoid, he added.

The 'Tasnim Exegesis' stands as one of the most detailed interpretations of the Quran in Islamic history. Completed over a span of 40 years, the work encompasses 80 volumes.

In 2006, the Islamic World Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (ISESCO) recognized it as the "Top Research Work in the Field of Islamic and Quranic Studies."

The exegesis employs a multidimensional approach, combining classical tafsir methodology with modern philosophical and theological insights, and extensively engages with both Sunni and Shia interpretations, as well as Islamic mysticism and rational discourse.
