IQNA – A Danish far-right politician has claimed that authorities in Denmark have denied him permission to desecrate the Quran in Copenhagen.

Rasmus Paludan, leader of the extremist party Stram Kurs, has a history of Quran burnings in both Sweden and Denmark. His latest request to repeat the act was rejected by Danish officials, who banned him from any such demonstrations in the capital.

Paludan, who has a Swedish father and Danish mother, claimed that the decision infringes on his freedom of speech, a right that several extremists have misused in the past few years to provoke the feeling of two billion Muslims.

Copenhagen police later confirmed that his request had been denied and that he is barred from participating in any protests, according to local media.

In a statement, Danish police explained that the decision was based on a specific assessment, leading to an order prohibiting Paludan from engaging in demonstrations within their jurisdiction.

Known for his provocative actions, Paludan has gained notoriety in recent years for burning copies of the Quran in public.

Last week, Paludan alleged that his account on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter) was suspended due to his anti-Islamic posts and his praise of Salwan Momika, a refugee of Iraqi descent in Sweden shot dead last month, months after envlovement in several Quran desecration events.

Earlier this month, Paludan burned a copy of the Quran outside the Turkish embassy in Stockholm, Sweden, under police protection and with official approval.

In November, he was sentenced to four months in prison by a Swedish court for inciting ethnic hatred by burning the Quran.

Quran burnings and similar acts have become a contentious issue in Scandinavia, where freedom of expression laws often clash with concerns over religious sensitivities and public order. The incidents have also strained diplomatic relations, particularly with Muslim-majority countries.
