Main Goal of Quran Is to Restore Human Dignity: Al-Azhar Deputy
The purpose of the Quran is purification of the soul and correction of thoughts, feelings and emotions, Mohamed al-Duwaini, said in an international conference in Sharjah, the United Arab Emirate, on application of Quranic teachings.
He said scholars have attempted to interpret the Quran, clarify its meanings, and deduce its rulings.
“They have studied the words of the Quran carefully, and they have extracted its secrets,” he stated.
Al-Duwaini said the conference “takes us to something more subtle than meditating on the details of the Word of God or the wonderful combination of verses, and it is the sublime goals of this noble book that lie in its details, sentences and words.”
Past scholars disagreed about the purpose of the Quran, he said. “Some of them focused on the outward aspect of the verses, while others linked the Quran’s goals to the goals of Islamic Sharia. But it should be said that the aims of the Quran are the major themes that the verses of the Quran deal with, and it is more accurate to consider the aims and purposes behind the verses for which the Quran was revealed.”
According to the scholar, the Holy Quran pursues many goals and purposes that humanity desperately needs in a world that is engaged in political, social, economic, cultural and technological conflicts.
