Karbala International Quran Award

The Dar-ol-Quran Center of the Astan (custodianship) of Imam Hussein’s (AS) holy shrine annually organizes the contest, known as the ‘Karbala International Quran Award’.

It is organized in the categories of Quran memorization, recitation and interpretation.

Wassam Nadir al-Delfi, head of the center’s media office, put the number of those who have signed up for the competition so far at 468.

This includes 263 in the category of memorization, 156 in recitation and 49 in Quran interpretation, he said.

He noted that registration will conclude on May 1, and the process for assessment will then begin.

He said Egypt has the highest number of contenders (41) followed by Iraq (37), Iran (19), Nigeria (28) and Indonesia (20).

These numbers reflect the growing international recognition of the Quranic event and the status of the holy city of Karbala as a global center of Quranic activities, al-Delfi stated.
