Egypt’s Mufti Stresses Reflection on Meaning While Memorizing Quran

IQNA – Memorizing the Quran should not be limited to repetition and review, but should be a conscious endeavor accompanied by reflection on the meaning of the verses, the Grand Mufti of Egypt said.

Grand Mufti of Egypt Nazir Mohamed Ayyad attended a celebration held to honor a number of Quran memorizers in the country’s Al-Sharqia Governorate (June 2025).

 

Nazir Mohamed Ayyad made the remark at a celebration held to honor a number of Quran memorizers in the country’s Al-Sharqia Governorate.

He emphasized the need to memorize the Quran along with acting upon the teachings of the Holy Book with the aim of personal elevation and purifying the society, especially in times of tribulations and challenges, where a spiritual and moral reference is needed to regulate life and guide towards truth and goodness.

He also said the preservation of the institution of the family on the solid foundations of justice and mercy is one of the goals of the Quran, and treating parents well is one of the greatest values emphasized in the Quran and the religion of Islam.

He went on to say that adhering to the teachings of the Quran and following its commands is the best way to maintain spiritual and social security in the face of a wave of moral collapse and intellectual tensions that threaten the cohesion of societies.

Ayyad emphasized that the true memorizer of the Quran is the one who follows the Quran as a guide and balances his actions and speech with the teachings of the Quran.

At the end of the ceremony, which was attended by local officials and various community groups, the Quran memorizers were honored with certificates and gifts from the Grand Mufti and the governor of Al-Sharqia.
