President of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Mehbooba Mufti on Saturday condemned the closure of Srinagar Jamia Masjid on the occasion of Eid.

She also expressed disappointment over the house arrest of Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, calling it a clear interference in religious freedom.

Talking to media, Mehbooba Mufti said that the government has locked the Jama Masjid on this sacred day and placed Mirwaiz Umar Farooq Sahib under house arrest.

“This is the only Muslim-majority state in the entire country, and yet on such a holy day, they have locked the mosque and detained Umar Farooq Sahib, while claiming that “everything is fine.”

She added, “If everything is fine, then why the house arrest?”

She said, “This is interference in our religion, and it is deeply wrong. I strongly condemn the actions of this government, which is merely standing by and watching this unfold.”

Mehbooba Mufti went on to say, “We pray to Allah to accept our sacrifices and to help the people of Palestine who are facing injustice and oppression. May Allah free Palestine from Israel's aggression and free them.
