Gaza: A War of Civilization against Barbarism?

IQNA –  In a world where words have been turned into political toys and meanings have been tied to power, a fundamental question still rises from the ruins of a besieged land: Who is civilized and who is savage?

Israel's brutal war on the Gaza Strip began on October 7, 2023

Abbas Khameyar, a cultural activist in the international arena and Iran’s former cultural attaché in Lebanon, in a note provided to IQNA, wrote about the silence of nations regarding the events in the Gaza Strip:

Whenever a fire broke out in any corner of the world, Western warships—especially American ones—would immediately dock on the shores, as if the architects of the ‘new world order’ were responsible for extinguishing or fanning every flame. But the October 7th incident was a turning point. This time, not only warships but Western leaders—from the US and Germany to France and Britain—rushed to the region with unprecedented speed and coordination.

(Then) US Secretary of State Antony Blinken shed his diplomatic cloak and, alongside Zionist generals, took command of the war room against the people of Gaza—a war that, from its very inception, openly declared war on humanity itself.

The German army commander, in a symbolic yet deeply questionable display, donated blood to soldiers of the occupying army in Tel Aviv—as if history had looped back on itself, but this time inverted. European presidents and prime ministers, one after another, stood behind podiums at press conferences beside (Israeli regime prime minister Benjamin) Netanyahu, flashing diplomatic smiles and posing as defenders of civilization.

Amid it all, one statement by French President Emmanuel Macron at his joint press conference with Netanyahu was etched into history—a line our children may one day read in textbooks with disbelief:

“This is a war of civilization against barbarism.”

But now, two years after those words, when Gaza knows nothing but ruin; when millions of women, men, and children gasp for breath between thirst, starvation, and explosions—we must ask again:

Mr. Macron! Which civilization stands here, and which savagery reigns there?

You, the heir to the French Revolution—the revolution that tore down the walls of oppression with the cry of ‘Liberty, Equality, Fraternity’—do you still hear even an echo of those ideals in your ears?

What civilization speaks of human rights institutions yet turns a blind eye to the ashes of children?

Who is civilized—the one who saves lives, or the one who rains rubble from the sky onto homes?

Gaza: Shame on Killers, Supporters of Killers and Those Staying Silent

What culture steals bread from the tables of the besieged, denies water to parched lips, cuts power to hospitals, and collapses walls atop patients—all while still preaching ‘human values’?

Today, the conscience of humanity is wounded. Humans, for all their claims, have failed a historic test.

The Zionist criminals have spilled so much blood that Hitler, the Mongols, and medieval war criminals pale in comparison.

In a world where words have been distorted, we must reclaim language.

We must drag truth out from beneath the rubble.

If this is the face of civilization, then let us redefine barbarism.

If a lifeless child in its mother’s arms is ‘barbaric’, and the pilot who drops bombs on them is ‘civilized’—then we have lost language, and with it, our humanity.

Today, only one thing remains to be said:

A little shame…

Shame on those who kill, shame on those who support them,

And the greatest shame on those who stay silent…
