7th Int’l Quran Contest for Muslim Students: Preliminary Round or Recitation Category Opens

The latest round of the biennial competition opened on Monday with judging by Abbas Emamjomeh, a veteran Iranian qari and international judge.

Contestants were required to select a designated passage and record a five-minute video recitation, observing the rules set by Iran’s competition regulations.

According to organizers, 55 video submissions were received, of which 45 met the eligibility criteria. These entries, representing 36 countries, are now being reviewed in the offline judging stage.

Those who achieve top scores will advance to the next round.

The event, organized by the Iranian Academics’ Quranic Organization under the Academic Center for Education, Culture, and Research (ACECR), is the only international Quranic competition designed exclusively for Muslim students. It was first launched in 2006 and follows the successful organization of 24 national student Quran festivals in Iran.

The competition also includes a full Quran memorization category. That section’s preliminary stage was held virtually from July 20 to August 1, with 47 countries represented.

Contestants performed live via video link from Tehran’s Mobin Studio of the International Quran News Agency (IQNA), and veteran Iranian judge Mo’taz Aghaei oversaw the evaluation.

Speaking after the memorization round, Aghaei noted the high caliber of performances: “We witnessed a very high level of competition during the preliminary stage. Some contestants received perfect scores, and more than half were awarded excellent marks.”
