Behnam Saeedi, secretary of the National Security and Foreign Policy Commission of Iran’s parliament, described President Masoud Pezeshkian’s trip to New York as “an important journey.”
He said the president could present “the call for justice and legitimacy of the Islamic Republic of Iran” while condemning the US and Israeli aggression on Iranian soil in June as a violation of international law.
“The people of Gaza have been under criminal attacks by the Zionist regime with US support for more than two years,” Saeedi said.
“We are witnessing a humanitarian crisis and genocide against women and children in Gaza, with some children dying from hunger and thirst,” he said as Israeli attacks on Gaza since October 2023 have killed more than 65,000 people.
This year’s UNGA has placed the war in Gaza and the Palestinian issue at the center of debate. Palestinian officials have said they expect at least 10 more countries, including Spain, Ireland, Slovenia, and Malta, to support recognition of Palestine as a state. More than 145 countries already extend recognition.

Saeedi added that Israel’s actions in Gaza, Yemen, and Lebanon underscored the need for Islamic nations to work together. “Unity among Islamic nations is essential to stop the crimes of this usurping regime. Muslim countries must know this fake regime recognizes no limits, as in recent days it attacked Qatar, Yemen, Lebanon, and Syria.”
The lawmaker also urged broader international action beyond the Muslim world. “All nations can condemn these crimes,” he said. “This is about humanity, genocide, and blatant violations of human rights in Gaza. All countries, even non-Muslims of every faith and tradition, should pursue this unity and condemn these crimes.”
