Over 40 Quran Translations Reviewed in Six Months: Iranian Official
The body, which operates under the Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance, is the only state authority responsible for evaluating and supervising Quran and religious text translations. Its work covers the Quran, Nahj al-Balagha, and Sahifa Sajjadiya, among others.
Karim Dolati, head of the Secretariat, told IQNA that reviews are carried out by expert panels. “In some cases, the author is present alongside the reviewers, and our experts explain the points raised. Based on their opinions, the Secretariat issues the final assessment,” he said.
Dolati explained that works prioritized for review and publication are those that are academically sound, free of major errors, and demonstrate independence and authenticity. He added that translators must also meet scholarly standards.

The Secretariat has compiled an extensive archive of translators and Quran translations, which is regularly updated and displayed at the International Quran Exhibition, said the official.
Dolati noted that the archive helps scholars and the public track the development of Quran translation in Iran and abroad.
In previous years, the Secretariat assessed about 20 to 50 translations annually, most of them in Persian. The latest figures, however, show a rise in both the number of works and the variety of languages reviewed. Dolati said recent evaluations also reflected new styles of Quran presentation, including revised layouts, designs, and color schemes.
He added that in the past two years, the Secretariat has widened its scope. While Persian Quran translations remain central, reviews now also cover translations of Nahj al-Balagha and Sahifa Sajjadiya.
