In a statement carried by Al Rai newspaper, the Ministry of Interior confirmed on Monday that State Security units detained a foreign resident accused of plotting a terrorist strike on religious sites in Kuwait.
According to the ministry, the suspect had ties to a proscribed group intent on undermining national security and sowing instability.
Investigators say that surveillance and intelligence gathering identified the suspect’s plan to execute bombings targeting worship facilities, although specifications of the targets were not given in the report.
The ministry stated the plot was disrupted before it could be carried out. During a raid on the suspect’s residence, authorities seized several explosive devices, precursor materials, and instruction manuals for making such weapons.

According to the ministry, the suspect was apprehended after prolonged monitoring, and the evidence collected supports serious charges. The ministry further affirmed that Kuwaiti security apparatuses remain alert to threats against public safety and that plots of this nature will be confronted decisively.
In January 2024, Kuwaiti authorities announced they had thwarted a separate terror plot targeting Shia houses of worship. In that earlier case, three individuals—citizens of Tunisia working in Kuwait—were arrested for allegedly planning attacks on mosques.
Reports at the time said the suspects had links to the Islamic State (Daesh) network and were communicating with Daesh operatives in Libya, Syria, and Iraq via Telegram.
